As of July 2023, 75 acetochlor products are registered for sale and use in Minnesota (see Table 1 for examples of registered products). Of the 75 registered products, 18 contain only acetochlor and 57 are "pre-mix" products containing acetochlor and other herbicides (Table 2). Not all registered products are necessarily sold or used in Minnesota.
Minnesota registration information for acetochlor and other pesticide products is available through the Kelly Registration Systems or the National Pesticide Information Retrieval System. Acetochlor product labels are available through the EPA's Pesticide Product and Label System (PPLS). Note that pesticide product labels change over time. The only official product label is the label attached to the container of the pesticide being used.
The MDA collects pesticide sales data to provide long-term trends in pesticide use. However, sales data should not be used as an indicator of pesticide use in a given year, as products bought one year may be held over and used the following year or be returned unused to the distributor.
In 2021, over 7 million pounds of acetochlor active ingredient was sold in Minnesota (Figure 1). Approximately 40% of acetochlor sold in 2021 was in acetochlor-only product and 60% was in pre-mix combination products of acetochlor and another herbicide or herbicides.
