Fertilizer Use, Nutrient Management Survey

The MDA works to understand the use of fertilizer and nutrient management through voluntary surveys. We work to characterize farm practices and agricultural inputs such as fertilizers and manures regionally as well as statewide. This work is done in cooperation with the USDA National Agricultural Statistic Service (NASS) and University of Minnesota researchers.

 

Fertilizer Sales Reports

All licensed fertilizer dealers are required to submit the tonnage of fertilizer product distributed or sold in the state of Minnesota. A summary of this reported information is published each year.

The fertilizer sold during a given year does not necessarily mean that all materials were "used" or land applied during the time period. On-farm storage continues to increase each year. This allows producers to purchase and store fertilizer products for future use.
